In 1999 Dr. Bertram joined the Genetics and Aging Research Unit (directed by Dr. Rudy Tanzi) to become a geneticist in the field of neurologic and psychiatric disorders. At MGH, Dr. Bertram has spearheaded the analyses that led to the discovery of a novel Alzheimer's locus on chromosome 10. His current research projects focus on searching and characterizing the putative Alzheimer's genes underlying the loci identified in this and other studies. This includes the application of comprehensive genetic linkage and association analyses in families afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.
Recently, Dr. Bertram has initiated the development of the AlzGene database project in collaboration with the Alzheimer Research Forum. This database is aimed at systematically sampling and summarizing all published genetic association studies in the field of Alzheimer's disease, in order to better recognize the most relevant genetic risk factors (available at: www.alzgene.org).
